Anyone try this, or done any research? I could pick up a DBXL fairly cheap and was toying with the idea of buying the parts needed to convert it into a MTXL. Just thought I'd ask to see if anyone has investigated this.

Hey moneybags, just bite the bullet and order a new one!
I'm not going to lie, for some reason, I want a MTXL. On the flip side, I think a 5IVE-T with MTXL tires would be a way more reliable platform if you just want something big to bash around. You won't see me with one anytime soon though, since I'm building another 5IVE-B this month and then the Vekta kit next month. I'm going to have to take a break from new kits after that, lol... |

When the MTXL was first announced, I started to price out some of the parts as I wanted better ground clearence for where I was running at the time. Things started to get expensive really quickly. This was through the LHS and not online, but I decided I really didn't want those huge tires to begin with.
My gut is telling me that despite the MTXL having some nice upgrades over the DBXL, that it's still likely too expensive for the general public. I'd love to see HH mark them down a bit to get rid of some inventory. I'd be pretty tempted if they did. Then again, maybe I'm totally off. The LHS says they've sold a few. |

Keep an eye out for a used MTXL. I found one for $800 shipped, and it was practically new. It looked like it might have had one tank of fuel through it at the most.

My LHS has sold out of them pretty quick too....its not a flop like that 5ive mini... I don't think they will be droping the price of the MTXL anytime soon...AND the DBXL-E should be coming out in mid May.

If anyone is interested, t I tried to put the MTXL tires on my MiniWRC. It worked better than I thought (considering the differences). On the back, the bottom bolt that holds the knuckle to the a-arm was slightly too long and rubbed against the ribs on the inside of the rim. On the front, no issues but you'd just need to limit the steering travel as the tires will rub if you go too far. It will work with a minimal amount of effort. With the longer a-arms on the 5ive, I don't think the tires would rub if you went full left/right on the steering.
LHS owner also said the MTXL was by far the most popular 5th scale that he's sold, so I guess I was wrong about the price scaring people off. |
